Use Case 1: Adult Chest X-Ray

Distinguishing TB alone, TB with pneumonia, and TB with HIV is critical due to varying treatment strategies, therefore we will develop AI tools to differentiate these conditions. We will ensure ethical compliance, such as by examining fairness according to gender, age, and subgroups.

Use Case 2: Pediatric Chest X-Ray

Paediatric CXR presents unique challenges due to the varying stages of lung development, which can alter how TB appears on CXR images. We aim to extend the existing CAD4TB technology to paediatric populations through AI model training with a unique paediatric CXR dataset.

Use Case 3: Adult Chest Ultrasound

This use case aims to explore whether AI-enhanced CUS can match or potentially surpass the diagnostic capabilities of CXR for TB in adults, to present a low-cost alternative to CXR especially in rural settings. We aim to address common challenges associated with CUS, such as variable image quality and the dependency on operator skills.

Use Case 4: Pediatric Chest Ultrasound

Ultrasound offers a radiation-free alternative to CXR, making it suitable for use in children. We will develop an AI tool to differentiate between viral and bacterial pneumonia, which have overlapping clinical presentations, yet each type requires a distinct treatment strategy.
