Jimma University

Jimma University (JU), located in Jimma City in southwest Ethiopia, is one of the country’s leading public universities, renowned for its community-based education, research excellence, and service to society. Established in 1952, JU offers diverse undergraduate and postgraduate programs in health sciences, agriculture, technology, business, and social sciences. Its Institute of Health and Jimma University Medical Center (JUMC) serve as national centers for advanced education, research, and specialized medical care. JU plays a pivotal role in training health professionals, generating evidence to inform policy, and addressing key public health and development challenges in Ethiopia and beyond. Prof. Esayas Kebede Gudina

Professor Esayas Kebede Gudina is a physician, academic, and researcher whose career spans clinical medicine, higher education, and health system leadership. He currently serves as a Professor of Internal Medicine at Jimma University. His academic and clinical interests are rooted in addressing pressing health challenges in low-resource settings, particularly antimicrobial resistance and infectious disease management.
In addition to his outstanding academic achievements, Prof. Gudina possesses extensive leadership experience in hospital management and academic administration. He has served as the chief executive director of Jimma University Medical Center and as the Vice President for Jimma University Institute of Health.
Currently, Prof Gudina leads multiple research projects focusing on infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV, malaria, meningitis, antimicrobial resistance, COVID-19, viral hepatitis, and infection prevention and control in healthcare settings.
